Rainy Day

Today, I got up feeling pretty good, expecting to go out and run about 1.5 miles on the road. I got dressed, and headed outside. It was pouring down rain. Well, even though I am not too averse to running in the rain, today I didn't feel all that up to being wet. So I headed into my fitness center and hopped on the treadmill.

I set it for 60 minutes on a hilly course, and ran/walked the first half going from 2.8-4.0mph in a 2-min run 2-min walk pattern. I then walked the rest of the way. I dropped my pedometer half way, and noticed after I picked it up that it showed 1.3 miles and the treadmill showed 1.7 miles. I may have to re-measure my stride and fix my pedometer.

Thats it. Until tomorrow.

Another Run

This morning, I didn't really want to go out and do anything. I didn't sleep really well, and was grumpy to boot. Cricket, my cat, decided that the side of my head was an appropriate place to sleep, and wouldn't get the hint that I didn't like that.

Suffice it to say, I still got up, and threw on my workout clothes and headed out grudgingly to do my run. I ran, not as good as the other day, but I ran. I did 1.6 miles, and forgot to start my stopwatch, so I don't know exactly the time. It was around 40 minutes, which makes me a pretty damn slow runner at best. It was pretty cold out, with a light drizzle that didn't help my mood either. Much of the foul running gear that I want is still owned by Amazon.com, and I am scrimping and saving which is preventing me from buying much of it. Although the CoolMax shirts I just got are a lifesaver, and do a wonderful job at keeping my chest comfortable while I run.

Anyway, thats it for the day.

Cross Training

So last night, as my TV is still busted, I spent my time reading. I just finished reading "No Need for Speed: A beginners guide to the Joys of Running" by John Bingham. I had already read his earlier book as well (The courage to Start: A Guide to Running for you Life), and loved it. So suffice it to say, he recommended that I get a little cross training in a few days a week. As I started my fitness program following the Body for Life plan, but had recently started training fully for the 5K in December, I had stopped doing the cross training. I was just running and walking. I realized that I had just stopped a pretty important part of my working out. One that would likely prevent more injuries, as well as give my body enough time to heal itself.

So, this morning, I changed it a bit. I had been wanting to get on the LifeCycle in my fitness center, but was a little nervous at how comfortable I would be, as when I was at 400lbs, sitting on any thing was a risk and a pain often enough. I ended up doing it though. I rode for about 20 minutes, at a pretty low level. Just enough to get my heart rate in the low end of my cardio zone. I was amazed at how fast the mileage added up though. In just that 20 minutes, I rode the equivalent of 7 miles.

Afterwards, I hopped on the treadmill, and did a 20 minute 3MPH walk and a 5 minute cool down, keeping my heart rate up. I then hopped down and sat in the sauna for 15 minutes and headed back home to clean up and get ready for work.

All in all, a great workout.

Running today

Today, I ran my 1.56mile out-and-back run to the end of my street. I say this was a run, although it was more of a Waddle/Walk episode, with most of it running. My 6 day a week workout efforts continue unbroken, and I continue to amaze myself with my progress so far.

6 months ago, it would be impossible for me to imagine that I would have been running, or even walking as far as I have. My running is pretty steady at 1.5 miles or so, but my walking distance keeps increasing. I am up to 3.66 miles, and am adding more each week. I fully expect to be ready for my 5k on December 11th.

No major weignt losses to report, I am still sitting at 269 or so, but I am feeling great after my workouts nowadays, and that makes it all worth it.

Later all!

Moving to new location

Well, my previous blog out at http://wls.modblog.com seems to be broken at the moment, and I wanted to continue my logging efforts. Somehow, Ill figure out a way to import my content over here.

As far as my Weight loss goes, I am down 118lbs and am feeling pretty good. I have started my running with a passion, and am still doing the 6-day a week workout (which I imagine I will be doing from now on).

On a positive note, my divorce was final on the 10th of October, so I am offically single again.
